Remote monitoring (RM) panels — benefits and cost
Short answer: An RM panel sends your plant data over the internet, so you can see from anywhere whether the plant is running and whether any fault has occurred. It costs roughly ₹11,000 to ₹12,000 more than a standard panel, plus an annual ₹2,100 data hosting charge.
It is not necessary on every plant. Below is a clear view of when it pays for itself and when it does not.

What an RM panel gives you
- Live status — whether the plant is running or stopped
- Immediate notification of any trip or fault
- Running hours and water produced
- TDS or conductivity, where a sensor is fitted
- Historical records
All of this appears on a mobile or computer, without visiting the plant.
What it costs
| Standard panel | RM version | Extra |
|---|---|---|
| 11NXT ₹9,450 | 11NXT RM ₹20,475 | +₹11,025 |
| 13NXT ₹10,500 | 13NXT RM ₹22,575 | +₹12,075 |
| 33NXT ₹12,600 | 33NXT RM ₹24,150 | +₹11,550 |
Plus an annual charge: data hosting renewal at ₹2,100 per year. The first year is usually included with the panel.
When it pays for itself
1. Plants at a distance or on multiple sites
If you have three or four plants in different locations, checking on a mobile is far cheaper than sending somebody to each. Fuel and time for one visit alone comes to ₹500 to ₹1,000.
2. AMC or service work
If you handle AMC for other people's plants, RM tells you which plant has a problem — before the customer calls. In a service business that matters a great deal.
3. Plants running overnight or during holidays
Where nobody is present, a trip goes unnoticed until morning — by which time the water stock is gone. RM gives an immediate alert.
4. Rented or leased plants
If you have leased a plant out, the running hours record is useful for billing.
When it is unnecessary
- A single plant where you are present — the panel is in front of you
- Small plant, low capacity — ₹11,000 extra is a lot against the cost of the plant
- No internet coverage — RM needs a network
- Tight budget — that money achieves more spent on a membrane or better filtration
Cheaper options if you only want data
| Item | What it gives | Price |
|---|---|---|
| RS485 on an NXT panel | Data by cable to a computer | ₹2,625 |
| 4G modem with RS485 | Data over the internet | ₹9,450 |
| Datalogger DL-650 | Recorded to a memory card | ₹11,550 |
| RS485 to USB | Data on a laptop | ₹6,300 |
The differences are explained in our 4-20mA vs RS485 guide.
Four points when installing RM
- Check network coverage — mobile signal at the plant location must be adequate
- Power backup — RM stops when power fails, so fit a small UPS if it matters
- Note the renewal date — ₹2,100 annually, or monitoring stops
- Keep the login details safe — useful when the panel or the responsible person changes
The straightforward answer
If you have one plant and you are present at it, take a standard panel and spend the ₹11,000 saved on better pre-filtration or a spare membrane — those will do more for you.
If you have several plants, or do AMC work, or the plant is remote, then RM is worth it. A single avoided site visit and the time saved covers the cost.

What does an RM panel do?
It sends plant data over the internet so you can see from a mobile or computer, anywhere, whether the plant is running, how many hours it has run and whether any fault has occurred.
How much more does an RM panel cost?
Roughly eleven to twelve thousand rupees more than a standard panel, plus an annual data hosting charge of two thousand one hundred rupees which is paid directly to Aster.
What happens if the hosting is not renewed?
Remote monitoring stops, but the panel continues to function exactly like a standard panel. The plant does not stop; you simply cannot see the data on your mobile any more.
Does RM need an internet connection?
Yes, the panel sends data over the mobile network, so adequate signal is needed at the plant location. It will not work reliably where coverage is very poor.
Is RM worth it for a single plant?
Usually not, particularly if you are present at the plant and the panel is in front of you. That money is better spent on improved pre-filtration or a spare membrane. RM really earns its cost across multiple plants or AMC work.
