EVOLVE multiport valves — what is different
Short answer: EVOLVE is the automatic multiport valve series. It performs the whole regeneration or backwash sequence by itself, on a timer or on volume treated, so nobody has to stand at the valve turning a handle for an hour.
Prices run from ₹9,450 for a 25NB filter valve up to ₹14,700 for a 40NB softener valve, side mounted.

The code reads exactly like a manual valve — see our MPV code guide.
Timer or volume based
Automatic valves can be set to regenerate in two ways:
Time based
Regenerates every so many days, regardless of how much water has been used. Simple to set, and appropriate where consumption is steady.
Volume based
Regenerates after a set volume has been treated. This is more efficient because:
- No regeneration is wasted during a slow week
- No hardness breakthrough during a busy week
- Salt consumption matches actual usage
What you need to run one
- Power supply at the valve — automatic valves cannot run without it
- Brine switch — ₹761, for softener duty
- A drain able to take the full backwash flow freely
- Correct programming — interval and step timings
Programming it correctly
An automatic valve set wrongly is no better than a manual one nobody operates. The interval should come from your actual figures:
Example: 98 litres of resin, hardness 350 ppm → (98 × 55,000) ÷ 350 = 15,400 litres between regenerations.
Set that as the volume, or divide by daily consumption to get the interval in days. Our plant calculators will work this out.
Step timings
| Step | Typical duration |
|---|---|
| Backwash | 10 – 15 minutes |
| Brine draw and slow rinse | 30 – 40 minutes |
| Fast rinse | 10 – 15 minutes |
| Brine refill | As set by the brine director |
Cutting the brine draw short is the most common programming error, and it leaves the resin partly regenerated.
When EVOLVE is the right choice
- Unmanned or remote installations
- Frequent regeneration, twice a week or more
- Where a missed regeneration is expensive — boiler, process line, hotel
- Where staff turnover makes manual operation unreliable
When a manual valve is still fine
- Somebody is present daily and regeneration is routine
- Small installations where the price difference matters
- Regeneration only once every two or three weeks
- No reliable power supply at the valve
The full comparison is in our manual vs automatic guide.
Maintenance
- Watch a full cycle occasionally — confirm each step actually happens
- Check the brine tank level after regeneration on a softener
- Verify the programming after any power interruption
- Replace the seal kit when leakage between ports appears
Troubleshooting is covered in our backwash guide.

What is the EVOLVE series?
It is the automatic multiport valve series. It performs the whole regeneration or backwash sequence by itself, either on a timer or after a set volume has been treated, so nobody has to operate the valve manually.
What is the difference between time based and volume based regeneration?
Time based regenerates every so many days regardless of usage, which is simple where consumption is steady. Volume based regenerates after a set volume is treated, which avoids wasted regeneration in slow periods and breakthrough in busy ones.
How do I set the regeneration interval?
Multiply the resin volume in litres by fifty five thousand and divide by the hardness in ppm to get the litres between regenerations. Divide that by daily consumption to get the interval in days.
What does an EVOLVE valve need to operate?
A power supply at the valve, a brine switch for softener duty, a drain able to take the full backwash flow, and correct programming of the interval and step timings.
What is the most common programming mistake?
Cutting the brine draw step short. Regeneration is a chemical exchange that takes time, so a shortened brine draw leaves the resin only partly regenerated and softener capacity falls.
