10 inch, 20 inch or jumbo — cartridge housing size guide
Short answer: Choose the housing by flow, not by plant capacity. As a guide, a 10 inch slim housing handles 500 to 1,000 LPH, a 20 inch slim 1,000 to 2,000 LPH, and a jumbo (big blue) roughly double that.
Above that, multi-round SS housings are used, holding several cartridges together.

Sizes available
| Type | Cartridge size | Flow (approximate) |
|---|---|---|
| 10 inch slim | 10" × 2.5" | 500 – 1,000 LPH |
| 20 inch slim | 20" × 2.5" | 1,000 – 2,000 LPH |
| 10 inch jumbo (big blue) | 10" × 4.5" | 1,500 – 2,500 LPH |
| 20 inch jumbo | 20" × 4.5" | 3,000 – 5,000 LPH |
| Multi-round SS | Several cartridges | Above 5,000 LPH |
PP housings — standard and economical
| Model | Connection | Price |
|---|---|---|
| 15/20NB, without air release | 15NB/20NB | ₹236 |
| 15/20NB with air release | 15NB/20NB | ₹262 |
| 15/20/25NB, without A/R | up to 25NB | ₹368 |
| 15/20/25NB with A/R | up to 25NB | ₹383 |
| 40NB with A/R | 40NB | ₹604 |
| 25/40NB with A/R | 25/40NB | ₹651 |
| 500MM transparent | Filter visible | ₹1,470 |
Imported housings — more robust
| Model | Size | Price |
|---|---|---|
| 250MM slim | 10 inch slim | ₹4,410 |
| 500MM slim | 20 inch slim | ₹4,935 |
| 250MM jumbo | 10 inch big blue | ₹6,300 |
| 500MM jumbo | 20 inch big blue | ₹8,400 |
SS304 housings — industrial
| Model | Feature | Price |
|---|---|---|
| SS304 clamped, threaded | Robust, long life | ₹20,475 |
| SS304 swing bolt with bag filter | Opens quickly | ₹35,175 |
When to choose SS: where pressure is higher, water is hot, or the plant runs continuously. PP becomes brittle with age and sun exposure, whereas SS lasts many years. See our SS304 guide.
Bag filter housings
For very dirty water a bag filter is better than a cartridge, because it holds far more dirt.
- PP housing with bag filter — ₹1,890
- PP housing with bag filter (smaller) — ₹1,470
- PP housing without gauge or bag — ₹945
- SS304 with swing bolt and bag — ₹35,175
Bags themselves are listed under Filters Bag. See also our bag filter guide.
Matching the NB connection
The housing NB should match your line:
- 15NB (½") — small plants, up to 500 LPH
- 20NB (¾") — the most common, 1,000 to 2,000 LPH
- 25NB (1") — 2,000 to 4,000 LPH
- 40NB (1½") — above 4,000 LPH
The full NB chart is in our NB size guide — the same principles apply here.
Brass insert versions
The 20NB with brass inserts (₹682–761) has brass moulded into the threads. The advantage is that repeated opening does not wear the plastic thread.
When it is worth it: where cartridges are changed weekly or fortnightly, plain PP threads wear quickly.
Multi-round for larger plants
Above 5,000 LPH a single cartridge is not enough, so multi-round housings hold 3, 5, 7 or more cartridges together.
| Plant | Setup |
|---|---|
| 5,000 LPH | 3-round, 20 inch |
| 10,000 LPH | 5-round, 20 inch |
| 20,000 LPH | 7-round, or two housings in parallel |
These use clamp or flanged fitting housings, from ₹8,400 and ₹30,450 respectively.

What is the difference between a 10 inch and 20 inch housing?
A twenty inch housing handles roughly double the flow, and the cartridge also lasts longer because there is more filter area. Where space permits, the twenty inch is the better choice.
When should I choose a jumbo or big blue housing?
When flow is higher and you do not want to change cartridges frequently. A jumbo cartridge is thicker so it holds considerably more dirt and lasts much longer.
Why should I take the air release version?
After changing a cartridge, air becomes trapped in the housing and reduces flow. An air release valve lets that air out easily. The price difference is only a few rupees, so it is always worth taking.
Should I choose PP or SS304?
For a general plant PP is adequate and much cheaper. Choose SS where pressure is higher, water is hot, or the plant runs continuously, because PP becomes brittle with age and sun exposure.
When is a bag filter housing better?
When the water is very dirty. A bag filter holds considerably more dirt than a cartridge, so it lasts much longer and reduces the effort of changing.
