About Aster Rotameters & Flow Meters

You cannot control what you do not measure. Flow measurement tells you whether an RO plant is producing rated output, whether recovery is correct, and whether a pump or membrane is losing performance. We supply the Aster range of rotameters, digital flow meters, electromagnetic flow meters, flow switches and water meters.

Rotameter or digital flow meter?

A rotameter (variable area meter) is simple, needs no power, and shows flow at a glance — ideal for permeate and reject lines on RO plants, and for chemical dosing lines. A digital or electromagnetic flow meter gives an electrical output that can be logged, totalised or connected to a controller, and works where the pipe is large or the liquid is dirty. For most small and mid-size plants, rotameters on permeate and reject plus one totaliser is enough.

Reading the model code

Aster rotameter models carry the flow range in the code — for example F1200 covers roughly 120-1200 LPH and F3000 covers roughly 300-3000 LPH. Choose a range where your normal operating flow sits around the middle of the scale, not at the very top or bottom, otherwise the reading is inaccurate. Also confirm the connection size (15NB, 25NB and so on) and mounting orientation.

Installation mistakes to avoid

Rotameters must be mounted vertically with flow upwards — mounted sideways or downwards they read wrongly. Leave a straight pipe run before and after the meter (roughly 5 pipe diameters upstream) so turbulence from a bend or valve does not affect the float. Keep the glass or acrylic tube clean; algae and scale on the tube make the float stick and give false readings.
