About RO Antiscalant, Cleaning Chemicals & Media

Chemicals are the cheapest insurance an RO plant has. A few hundred rupees of antiscalant every month protects membranes worth tens of thousands. We supply antiscalants, membrane cleaning chemicals (CIP), activated carbon, filter media and ion-exchange resin with GST invoice.

What antiscalant actually does

As RO concentrates the feed water, calcium carbonate, calcium sulphate, silica and barium salts approach their solubility limit and start crystallising on the membrane surface. Antiscalant interferes with crystal growth so these salts stay dissolved and leave with the reject. It does not remove hardness — it only keeps it from depositing. Dosing is typically in the range of 3-5 ppm on feed flow, but the correct dose depends on your water analysis and recovery.

Acidic or alkaline cleaning?

Membrane cleaning uses two different chemistries and using the wrong one wastes a cleaning cycle. Low-pH (acidic) cleaner removes mineral scale — calcium carbonate, metal oxides, iron. High-pH (alkaline) cleaner removes organic fouling, biofilm and silt. If flow has dropped and permeate TDS is rising, it is usually scale; if pressure drop across the vessel has risen, it is usually biofouling. Clean at the first 10-15% drop in performance — waiting until the plant is badly fouled often makes the fouling irreversible.

Media and resin

We also supply activated carbon (chlorine, odour and organics removal), multigrade sand and gravel, cation and anion resin for softeners and DM plants, and antiscalant dosing pumps and tanks. Media has a working life — carbon exhausts, resin fouls with iron. Replacing exhausted media is far cheaper than the membrane damage it eventually causes.
