These four measurements tell you almost everything about water quality in a treatment plant. We supply the Aster range of online and portable pH, conductivity, TDS and ORP meters, transmitters, sensors and electrodes for RO plants, DM plants, ETPs, STPs, swimming pools and laboratories.
pH shows how acidic or alkaline the water is — critical for coagulation in ETPs, for membrane protection, and for discharge compliance. Conductivity measures the water's ability to carry current, which rises with dissolved salts — the standard measurement on DM plant outlet. TDS is derived from conductivity and is the everyday measure of RO performance. ORP indicates oxidising or reducing conditions, used to confirm chlorine or dechlorination before membranes.
An online transmitter with an inline sensor gives continuous readings and can trigger alarms or dosing — essential where water quality must never drift, such as DM outlet or effluent discharge. A portable meter is enough for periodic spot checks and is far cheaper. Many plants use both: online on the critical point, portable for daily rounds.
Electrodes drift. A pH electrode should be calibrated with buffer solutions (usually pH 4 and 7) regularly, and conductivity meters with a standard solution. An uncalibrated meter is worse than no meter, because decisions are made on wrong numbers. Store pH electrodes wet in storage solution — never dry, and never in distilled water, which ruins the reference junction.
