An Effluent Treatment Plant treats industrial wastewater so it meets pollution-control discharge norms before it goes to drain, or so it can be reused inside the plant. Every industry produces different effluent — textile, dyeing, pharma, food processing, electroplating, engineering and automobile units all need different treatment. We design and build ETPs to suit your actual effluent, not a fixed catalogue model.
Screening removes rags, plastic and coarse solids. Oil and grease trap separates floating oil. Equalisation tank evens out flow and load so later stages get steady input — this single tank prevents most ETP failures. Chemical treatment (coagulation and flocculation with lime, alum or polyelectrolyte) makes fine suspended matter clump together and settle. Biological treatment — activated sludge, MBBR or SBR — is where bacteria consume the dissolved organic load and BOD/COD come down. Finally settling, filtration and disinfection polish the water before discharge or reuse.
Three figures decide the design: daily effluent flow in KLD, the inlet BOD and COD, and the discharge norms your state pollution board applies. Peak-hour flow matters too — a plant sized only on daily average will overflow during shift changes or batch discharges. Get a proper effluent analysis done first; designing an ETP from assumptions is the most expensive mistake in this field.
Biological treatment is alive — it needs steady feeding, correct dissolved oxygen and stable pH. Sudden shock loads, hot effluent or a slug of chemicals can kill the bacteria and take weeks to recover. Monitor pH, DO, MLSS and sludge settling regularly, remove sludge on schedule, and keep the blowers and diffusers maintained. Keep proper records — pollution boards ask for them.
