About Embark Chlorine, Turbidity & DO Instruments

Some water quality parameters must be watched continuously, not once a shift. We supply the Embark range of online and portable analysers for residual chlorine, turbidity, dissolved oxygen (DO) and pressure — used in drinking water plants, swimming pools, STPs, ETPs and process industries.

Residual chlorine

Residual chlorine confirms that disinfection is actually working. Too little and the water is unsafe; too much and it damages RO membranes downstream and causes taste complaints. An online chlorine analyser lets you hold the residual in a narrow band and can control the dosing pump automatically instead of relying on manual testing.

Turbidity

Turbidity measures the cloudiness caused by suspended particles, reported in NTU. It is the quickest indicator that a sand filter is breaking through or that coagulation has gone off. In drinking water plants it is a compliance parameter; in RO plants, rising feed turbidity is an early warning that membranes will foul.

Dissolved oxygen in STPs and ETPs

DO is the single most important number in a biological treatment plant. The bacteria that break down organic load need oxygen — typically 1.5-2.5 mg/l in the aeration tank. Below that they die off and BOD/COD removal collapses; far above it, you are simply wasting blower electricity, which is usually the largest running cost in an STP. A DO meter often pays for itself in power savings alone.

Keeping readings trustworthy

All these sensors need regular cleaning and calibration. Biofilm on a DO probe, deposits on a turbidity optical window or a spent chlorine reagent all give confidently wrong readings. Set a fixed calibration schedule and record it — pollution boards and auditors ask for the log.
