About RO Membrane Housings & Pipe Joint Couplings

A membrane housing (pressure vessel) holds the RO membrane and contains the operating pressure safely. Choosing the wrong housing material or pressure rating is a safety risk, not just a performance issue. We supply FRP and SS304 housings in 2521, 4021, 4040 and 8040 sizes, plus end caps, seals, adapters and pipe joint couplings.

FRP or Stainless Steel?

FRP housings are lighter, do not corrode and cost less — the normal choice for most commercial and industrial RO plants. SS304 housings are chosen where hygiene standards demand it (pharma, food and beverage), where the housing is exposed to mechanical knocks, or where the customer specifically wants a metal body. Both are available in side-port and end-port designs.

Pressure rating matters

Housings are rated for a maximum operating pressure — commonly 300 psi for brackish water service and higher for seawater duty. Never run a housing above its rating. If your plant needs high pressure for high-TDS feed water, tell us before ordering so we supply the correct rating rather than the cheapest one.

Installation and common mistakes

Most housing complaints come from installation, not the product. Lubricate O-rings with glycerine (never petroleum grease, which damages rubber), seat the end cap retaining ring fully into its groove, support long housings properly on the skid, and check that the brine seal on the membrane faces the correct direction. A membrane installed backwards or a half-seated retaining ring will leak or blow out under pressure.
