About Cartridge Filters & Filter Housings

Cartridge filters are the last line of defence before an RO membrane, a dosing pump or a critical process. They remove fine suspended particles that sand and carbon filters let through. We stock PP spun, string wound, meltblown and pleated cartridges in all common lengths, plus slim, jumbo, multi-round and SS304 housings.

Understanding micron rating

The micron rating tells you the particle size the cartridge stops. 5 micron is the standard pre-filter before an RO plant. 1 micron is used where feed water carries very fine colloidal matter or where SDI must be brought down. 10-20 micron is used as a coarse guard filter ahead of pumps. Fitting too fine a cartridge does not make water cleaner — it simply chokes faster and starves the pump.

Choosing the right length and end fitting

Lengths are given in inches — 10", 20", 30" and 40" are standard. The end fitting must match your housing: DOE (double open end) sits between two knife-edge seats, while 222 and 226 fittings have O-rings and a bayonet lock. A 222-T3 cartridge will not seal in a DOE housing. When ordering a replacement, send us the old cartridge's model code or a photo of the end cap.

When to change a cartridge

Do not go by time — go by pressure drop. Note the inlet and outlet pressure when a fresh cartridge is fitted; when the difference rises by about 0.7-1.0 kg/cm², it is time to change. A choked cartridge starves the high-pressure pump, which is a far more expensive item than the cartridge itself. Never wash and reuse a spun or meltblown cartridge — the trapped dirt goes deeper into the fibre and the rating is lost.
