FRP (Fibre Reinforced Plastic) pressure vessels hold the filter media in softeners, multigrade filters, activated carbon filters, iron removal filters and DM plants. Pentair vessels are among the most widely used worldwide because of their consistent build quality and pressure rating. We are a supplier of the Pentair range along with diffusers and accessories.

Reading the vessel size

Vessel sizes are written as diameter and height in inches — 1054 means 10 inch diameter, 54 inch height; 1465 means 14 inch by 65 inch. Common sizes run from 0844 up to 3072 and larger. The correct size depends on the media volume you need and the service flow rate, not just on the tank you have space for.

Never fill a vessel completely

This is the most common and most damaging mistake. Media should occupy roughly 50-60% of the vessel volume — the remaining space (freeboard) is needed for the bed to expand during backwash. Overfilling means the media cannot lift and clean itself, so the bed channels, output quality drops, and media escapes to drain. If someone tells you 96 litres of resin fits into a 1054 vessel, they are wrong — that size holds around 42 litres.

Diffusers and distribution

The top and bottom distributors spread water evenly across the whole bed. A cracked or wrongly sized diffuser causes channelling — water finds a shortcut through one part of the bed and the rest sits unused, so hardness or turbidity breaks through early even though the media is fine. Always replace a damaged distributor rather than working around it.
