UF membranes are hollow-fibre modules that filter down to roughly 0.01-0.1 micron, removing bacteria, cysts, turbidity and suspended solids while letting dissolved minerals pass through. We supply UF membranes and modules for drinking water systems, RO pre-treatment, process water and effluent recycling.
In inside-out modules water flows through the inside of each fibre outward — good for clean feed water and easy to backwash. In outside-in modules water flows from outside the fibre inward, which handles higher solids loading and is more forgiving on dirty feed. Choose based on your feed water quality, not on price alone.
Three things decide membrane life: pre-filtration, backwash discipline and chemical cleaning. Fit a strainer ahead of the module so fibres are not abraded by grit. Backwash on schedule — the fouling layer must be removed before it compacts. Run a chemical clean when trans-membrane pressure rises noticeably. Also avoid running the module dry or letting it freeze; both damage fibres permanently.
UF is used as RO pre-treatment (reducing SDI and protecting RO membranes), as final polishing on borewell water where TDS is acceptable but bacteria are a risk, in swimming pool recirculation, and in STP tertiary treatment where treated sewage is recycled for flushing and gardening.
