About DM (Demineralization) Plants

A DM plant removes virtually all dissolved mineral salts from water, producing low-conductivity water for boilers, laboratories, pharmaceutical use, battery water, electronics rinsing, textile processing and any process where even small quantities of salts cause problems. Unlike a softener, which only exchanges hardness for sodium, a DM plant removes both positive and negative ions and gives you water close to mineral-free.

How a DM plant works

Water first passes a cation resin bed which removes positively charged ions β€” calcium, magnesium, sodium β€” releasing hydrogen ions instead. It then passes an anion resin bed which removes negatively charged ions such as chlorides, sulphates and carbonates, releasing hydroxide ions. The hydrogen and hydroxide combine to form pure water. Where very high purity is needed, a mixed bed (MB) polishing unit is added after the two beds to bring conductivity down further.

Sizing and regeneration

DM plant sizing depends on your feed water TDS, required output quality and the volume needed between regenerations. Higher inlet TDS means the resin exhausts faster and regeneration comes sooner, so the same output can need a much larger plant on poor feed water. Regeneration uses hydrochloric acid for the cation bed and caustic soda for the anion bed β€” these are corrosive chemicals, so trained handling, proper storage and safety gear are essential.

RO first, then DM β€” usually cheaper

Where feed TDS is high, running an RO plant before the DM is almost always more economical. RO removes the bulk of the salts, so the DM resin lasts far longer between regenerations and your acid and caustic consumption drops sharply. Many customers who complain about high DM running cost simply need an RO ahead of it.

What we supply

Complete DM plants, mixed bed units, FRP and MS rubber-lined vessels, cation and anion resin, conductivity meters and regeneration systems. Standard warranty 1 year, AMC available and charged separately, delivery across Delhi NCR and pan-India, GST invoice on every supply. Share your feed water analysis and required output conductivity and we will design the correct plant for your process.

Frequently Asked Questions

What output quality does a DM plant give?

Two-bed gives low conductivity; mixed-bed polishes to <1 Β΅S/cm for high-purity needs. Call 9910646957 for design. Prices exclude GST.

DM plant vs RO β€” which do I need?

RO suits high-TDS bulk reduction; DM suits ultra-low conductivity. Often both are combined. Share your need for advice.

Do you supply resin and regeneration chemicals?

Yes, cation/anion resin and acid/alkali regeneration support are provided.
